The human liver is one of the most important organs in the human body. It has over 500 functions and is able to regenerate its cells. The liver, being an important part of the digestive system, functions to digest fats, filter drugs and poisons, store nutrients like vitamin A,D,E,K, and B12, secrete bile, and remove excess glucose from the body and store it until it is needed. Other functions of the liver include synthesizing proteins, production and regulation of chemicals such as globin (one of the chemicals in hemoglobin), and fibrinogen and prothrombin (for wound healing), and immune and clotting factors, just to name a few. The liver is unique because it can lose a majority of its tissue and still be able to function properly. Although the liver is able to regenerate itself, there may come a point when it suffers irreversible damages caused by disease, life style, or even a birth defect. When this happens many people either succumb to death or they fight for life and opt f or a liver transplant (auuuu, 2015). Getting a liver transplant is not as easy as that. There are certain qualifications that one must meet in order to be placed on the transplant list.
